Intro
A digital platform where children with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) could be educated in a friendly, motivating way about their disease and learn tricks and tips on how to live with RA.
Challenge
Roche Hellas, identified the need to create a source of advice and information for children 2- 12 years old suffering from juvenile R.A., as the most important step in the therapeutic procedure is the education of children and their families about the disease. But how can we make talking about a life-changing disease to kids appealing?
Solution
Creation of a dedicated tablet -based website and mascot/ ambassador whose objective is to lend a helping hand to children with RA in order to feel at ease within the disease every day. Akis Xerakis, the mascot , is a a creature who is also suffering from RA and its own shape is inspired by the international sign for OK!
Within the akisxerakis.gr website, children with RA can :
- be educated on their disease
- learn tricks and tips to help their everyday lives
- play games that help the movement of their hands
- read books about the adventures of Akis Xerakis
The website has a dedicated section for Children whose family-members or a friend is suffering from RA, so that awareness can be raised on non-patients as well.
Outcome
The website has been supported by local patient support groups and communities as well as the Pediatric Rheumatology Center . Physicians have already started making use of the website to inform pediatric patients and their families.
